Generator Winder

About the role

The Generator Winder is responsible for disassembling, inspecting, winding, rewinding, repairing and refurbishing generator rotors to OEM specifications. The role ensures that rotors are returned to reliable operating condition for utility, industrial and power‑generation customers.

Key responsibilities

• Perform generator rotor winding, rewinding, coil installation, lacing, slot wedging and insulation replacement according to OEM drawings.
• Execute rotor disassembly, detailed inspection, repair, refurbishment and re‑assembly during major overhauls and maintenance projects.
• Conduct electrical testing such as resistance, insulation resistance (IR), polarization index (PI), continuity and Hi‑Pot testing where authorized.
• Identify winding defects, insulation damage, loose coils and mechanical issues while maintaining traceability and quality records.
• Follow EHS, lockout/tagout procedures and maintain a safe, organized workshop environment.

Required profile

• Technical diploma or trade certification in Electrical Technology, E&M Winding, Power Engineering or a related field.
• Hands‑on experience with generator rotor winding and rewinding, including knowledge of winding techniques and insulation systems.
• Ability to read and interpret OEM drawings, winding diagrams, technical manuals and manufacturer standards (Siemens, GE, ABB, Mitsubishi).
• Experience with electrical repairs, insulation application, testing and full traceability of materials and processes.
• Strong safety awareness and experience working in generator repair workshops or power‑plant environments.
