Lead Design – Electrical (AC) for Solar Power Plants

About the role

The Lead Design – Electrical (AC) will own the complete design and detailed engineering of solar power projects ranging from mini‑grid to megawatt‑scale rooftop installations. Reporting to the Section Head, the role coordinates multidisciplinary teams to deliver high‑quality engineering documents on time and within budget.

Key responsibilities

• Review and approve detailed drawings, sizing calculations and technical deliverables for all electrical equipment.
• Prepare and submit design packages to clients for approval, maintaining a Document Control Index for tracking.
• Coordinate with site teams, clients, SCM, vendors and consultants to resolve design queries and ensure alignment.
• Validate BOQ and material selections against previous projects and cost estimates.
• Lead vendor technical evaluations, participate in vendor selection and provide contingency inputs for critical equipment.
• Drive innovation and cost optimisation while ensuring compliance with project specifications.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s (or M.Tech) in Electrical Engineering or related specialization.
• 7‑10 years of experience in design and detailing of power plant electrical systems, preferably in solar.
• Proven ability to lead a team of design engineers and draftsmen.
• Strong analytical, problem‑solving and communication skills.
• Self‑motivated, detail‑oriented and capable of managing multiple priorities.

Required skills

• Proficiency with ETAB and AutoCAD.
• In‑depth knowledge of inverters, transformers, power cables, UPS, battery & charger systems, lighting and ancillary equipment (FFPH, auxiliary power).
• Familiarity with solar‑specific design standards and best practices.
