Principal Platform Engineer

About the role

We are seeking a Principal Platform Engineer to lead the technical direction of a fast‑growing construction‑technology platform. The role combines deep hands‑on development with strategic architecture ownership across backend services, data pipelines, APIs, and AI‑native capabilities.

Key responsibilities

• Own the technical architecture for backend services, data pipelines, APIs, SDKs, streaming, and platform infrastructure.
• Design and build scalable, multi‑tenant platform capabilities that connect workers, devices, sites, events, and customer workflows.
• Define governed data pipelines with clear contracts, lineage, quality controls, and reliable replay.
• Develop secure, high‑performance APIs and SDKs for internal teams, partners, customers, and AI applications.
• Make pragmatic technology and datastore decisions across relational, time‑series, streaming, search, and vector workloads.
• Drive evolution of the backend platform, primarily using C#/.NET while contributing in Go, Python, Java, or Node.js as needed.
• Shape AI‑native features such as agents, retrieval‑augmented generation, tool use, MCP, and model evaluation.
• Improve engineering standards for testing, CI/CD, observability, release processes, and production operations.

Required profile

• 10+ years of software engineering experience with impact at Staff, Principal, Lead Architect, or equivalent level.
• Proven track record designing and delivering scalable SaaS platforms or complex distributed systems in production.
• Strong backend and distributed‑systems expertise with hands‑on experience in at least one of C#/.NET, Go, Python, Java, or Node.js.
• Extensive API design experience (REST and/or GraphQL) and familiarity with authentication patterns such as OAuth, JWT, and SSO.
• Experience with cloud platforms (GCP and/or AWS), Kubernetes, Terraform, containers, CI/CD pipelines, and observability tooling.
• Background working with governed data platforms, ontologies, data lineage, or similar data‑governance systems.
