Ship Unloader Operator – Bulk Grain Terminal

About the role

The Ship Unloader Operator ensures safe and efficient transfer of bulk grain from vessels to the terminal’s conveyor system or trucks using large‑scale pneumatic unloading equipment. The role focuses on maximizing discharge rates while protecting the structural integrity of both ship and machinery.

Key responsibilities

• Operate the ship unloader with precise control of hoisting, slewing, luffing and traveling to discharge cargo without damaging the vessel or terminal infrastructure.
• Continuously adjust operating parameters to achieve maximum discharge rates as defined in the operational plan.
• Monitor control panels, pressure, flow and power consumption to keep the equipment within safe limits.
• Maintain constant communication with the control‑room operator, stevedores and vessel captain to coordinate movements and safety stops.
• Perform pre‑operational checks, confined‑space safety monitoring and emergency stop procedures.
• Operate dust‑suppression or collection systems to maintain air quality and prevent combustible dust hazards.
• Identify, log and report mechanical or electrical defects, carry out minor maintenance tasks and record shift activities in SAP.

Required profile

• At least 3 years of experience operating heavy port or bulk material handling machinery.
• Ability to work at height and follow lock‑out/tag‑out (LOTO) safety procedures.
• Excellent hand‑eye coordination and spatial awareness for navigating the unloader boom into a ship’s hold.
• Willingness to conduct pre‑shift inspections, routine servicing and detailed documentation.

Required skills

• Operation of pneumatic ship unloading equipment.
• Proficiency with SAP for logging shift data and reporting.
