Customs Investigation Expert

About the role

The Customs Investigation Expert leads and oversees highly complex customs investigation cases involving smuggling that fall outside the administrative resolution scope. The role ensures legal integrity, evidentiary sufficiency, and compliance with criminal procedures while providing authoritative decisions on case outcomes.

Key responsibilities

• Lead end‑to‑end review and validation of complex seizure reports for completeness, accuracy, and legal soundness.
• Conduct advanced analysis of documentary, physical, and testimonial evidence to establish violations and intent.
• Determine and validate criminal liability, including multi‑party and organized‑crime involvement.
• Approve case outcomes and recommend referrals to Public Prosecution, ensuring robust case files.
• Oversee the full investigation lifecycle from intake to referral, adhering to legal protocols and suspect rights.
• Provide expert interpretation of customs laws, regulations, and procedural frameworks to internal stakeholders.
• Identify systemic issues and recommend corrective measures to improve investigation practices.
• Mentor and develop investigation teams, contributing to policy development and procedural standardisation.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Law, Business Administration, or a related discipline.
• Minimum 5 + years of relevant experience in customs, legal enforcement, regulatory compliance, or investigations.
• Advanced competency in legal advisory, research and analysis, and legislative interpretation.
