Evasion Lead Investigator

About the role

The Zakat, Tax and Customs Authority (ZATCA) is seeking an experienced Evasion Lead Investigator to head its customs evasion investigations. The role involves designing operational plans, overseeing investigator teams, and ensuring investigations are conducted in line with ZATCA’s strategy and legal framework.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and implement investigation operational plans aligned with ZATCA strategy.
• Set and manage investigators’ rotation schedules to ensure comprehensive coverage.
• Review, classify, and prioritize raised investigation cases.
• Conduct in‑depth investigations of customs evasion, fraud and breaches using techniques such as post‑clearance, declaration, valuation and restriction analysis.
• Liaise with internal auditors and external partners during investigations.
• Evaluate investigation activities for uniformity, recommend adjustments and ensure compliance with guidelines.
• Monitor investigator performance, provide feedback and take corrective actions.
• Receive, analyse and reassess objections or appeals on investigation decisions within set deadlines.

Required profile

• Minimum 48 months (4 years) of experience in customs, tax or related investigations.
• Proven ability to lead teams and manage complex operational plans.
• Strong analytical and decision‑making skills.
• Familiarity with legal proceedings and regulatory frameworks governing customs and tax.
• Ability to work under pressure and meet strict deadlines.
