Lathe Machine Operator

About the role

The Lathe Machine Operator is responsible for operating both conventional and CNC lathe equipment to produce and repair mechanical components. The role ensures that all parts are manufactured to precise specifications while maintaining a safe and efficient workshop environment.

Key responsibilities

• Set up and operate conventional and CNC lathe machines.
• Interpret engineering drawings, fits, and tolerances.
• Perform boring, drilling, reaming, threading, and tapping operations.
• Install and adjust tools, inserts, collets, and accessories.
• Conduct quality inspections using micrometres, verniers, and gauges.
• Maintain coolant levels, lubrication, and overall machine condition.
• Follow work orders, standard operating procedures, and safety guidelines.
• Assist in training new operators and suggest process improvements.
• Keep the work area clean, organized, and safe.

Required profile

• High School Diploma, Trade Certificate (ITI) or equivalent technical qualification.
• 2–5 years of experience in manufacturing, beverage, bottling, FMCG, or machine‑shop environments.
• Strong teamwork, communication, problem‑solving and safety awareness.

Required skills

• Lathe and CNC lathe operation.
• Familiarity with FANUC control systems.
• Reading and interpreting technical drawings and specifications.
• Use of precision measuring instruments such as micrometres, verniers and gauges.
• Knowledge of machining processes and material properties.
