Motor Man – Machinery Maintenance Technician

About the role

The Motor Man is responsible for maintaining and operating engine‑room equipment on drilling rigs. The role ensures safe, reliable, and efficient operation of machinery while supporting overall rig productivity.

Key responsibilities

• Perform engine‑room watch‑keeping duties, monitoring temperatures, pressures and oil levels.
• Lubricate gears, shafts and bearings on engines and auxiliary equipment.
• Carry out routine maintenance, minor repairs and assist with engine repairs as directed.
• Report any leaks, abnormal readings, vibrations or unusual sounds to the shift supervisor promptly.
• Conduct stocktaking of maintenance department materials and keep tools clean and serviceable.
• Maintain engine‑room, machine spaces and workshop in a clean, hazard‑free condition, disposing of waste according to company policy.

Required profile

• Formal mechanic training (apprenticeship) preferred; relevant certifications and oil‑field experience acceptable.
• At least 12 months of experience in drilling or work‑over operations with a reputable contractor.
• Experience on offshore rigs is advantageous.
• Ability to work in extreme weather, at heights, in confined spaces and on day/night shifts.
