Power Management & Automation Commissioning Engineer

About the role

ETAP is seeking a Power Management & Automation Commissioning Engineer to lead the commissioning, testing and validation of advanced power management systems for oil & gas, industrial and utility projects in Dhahran, Saudi Arabia. The role combines hands‑on system integration with control‑software development to ensure reliable, secure and efficient operation of energy assets.

Key responsibilities

• Lead commissioning and configuration of Power Management Systems (PMS), Energy Management Systems (EMS), Power Plant Controllers (PPC) and Microgrid Controllers (MGC).
• Implement, tune and validate PPC controllers and Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) strategies, including SOC management and hybrid dispatch optimization.
• Design, program and commission PLC/RTU based automation solutions for oil & gas, industrial and utility applications.
• Prepare and execute Factory Acceptance Tests (FAT) with equipment manufacturers and conduct Site Acceptance Tests (SAT) following client procedures.
• Configure and test communication protocols such as Modbus RTU/TCP, IEC 61850, DNP3 and IEC 60870‑5‑101/103/104.
• Apply cybersecurity measures in accordance with IEC 62351 and industry best practices.

Required profile

• Proven experience in commissioning and validation of power management and automation systems.
• Strong knowledge of communication protocols and cybersecurity standards for power applications.
• Hands‑on expertise with engineering software platforms such as Codesys and IEC 61131 PLC tools.

Required skills

• Modbus RTU/TCP, IEC 61850 (MMS, GOOSE), DNP3, IEC 60870‑5‑101/103/104.
• IEC 62351 cybersecurity implementation.
• Codesys, IEC 61131 PLC programming environments.
• PLC/RTU configuration and programming.
• BESS control, load shedding (UFLS, UVLS), generator synchronization and control.
