Second Engineer DP PSV

About the role

POSH Fleet Services is looking for a Second Engineer to join its engineering team on board a fleet of vessels, including offshore support vessels. The role reports to the Chief Engineer and Master and covers the safe operation, maintenance and reliability of main and auxiliary machinery, engineering watchkeeping, planned and emergency repairs, and compliance with safety, environmental and regulatory standards.

Key responsibilities

• Assist the 1st Engineer and Chief Engineer in managing the Engine Department, and supervise operations and maintenance of all machinery, including the ballast system and plant.
• Supervise planned maintenance and repairs, and keep a daily work record of all maintenance in the machinery spaces.
• Handle chemical treatment of fresh and salt water, and report daily movements of fuel, lubricating and hydraulic oils and fresh water to the Chief Engineer.
• Ensure the engine department is kept clean and safe, and keep engine room watches as directed.
• Test emergency stand-by machinery, record tests in the Engine Room Logbook, and make sure crew know how to use them.
• Measure and sample fuel and lubricating oil, arrange analysis with the Company Technical Superintendent, and assist with bunkering.
• Maintain cooling water efficiency, the steering gear and air conditioning, and operate anchor handling and towing winches when assigned.
• Ensure all engine room staff wear proper PPE and follow safety procedures.

Required profile

• Certificate of Competency as per STCW Regulation III/2 and valid STCW endorsements.
• Valid medical certificate and DP maintenance course (where applicable).
• Minimum 12 months of experience in the rank and on a similar type of vessel.
• Ability to work in engine rooms with noise, heat and moving machinery, including night shifts and confined spaces, and to meet medical fitness and vaccination requirements.

Required skills

• Experience with AHTS or offshore support vessel engineering, including DP systems and high-power propulsion plant.
• Advantageous: training in marine engineering automation, refrigeration, high-voltage systems or DP maintenance.
• Use of CMMS, technical publications and OEM manuals for maintenance planning and fault diagnosis.
• Strong communication, decision-making and supervisory skills, mentoring junior crew and coordinating with shoreside staff.
