Second Engineer - Non DP AHTS

About the role

POSH Fleet Services is looking for a Second Engineer to join its engineering team on board a fleet of AHTS vessels. The role reports to the Chief Engineer and Master and covers the safe operation, maintenance and reliability of main and auxiliary machinery, engineering watchkeeping, planned and emergency repairs, and compliance with safety, environmental and regulatory standards.

Key responsibilities

• Assist the 1st Engineer and Chief Engineer in managing the engine department, and supervise operations and maintenance of all machinery, including the ballast system and plant.
• Plan and supervise maintenance and repairs, and keep a daily work record of all maintenance in the machinery spaces.
• Handle chemical treatment of fresh and salt water, and report daily movements of fuel, lubricating and hydraulic oils and fresh water to the Chief Engineer.
• Keep the engine room clean, maintain engine room watches, and ensure all engine room staff wear proper PPE.
• Test emergency stand-by machinery, record tests in the Engine Room Logbook, and make sure crew know how to use emergency equipment.
• Measure and sample fuel and lubricating oil, arrange analysis with the Company Technical Superintendent, and assist with bunkering and bunker transfers.
• Maintain cooling water efficiency, the steering gear and air conditioning, and operate anchor handling and towing winches when assigned (offshore).
• Carry out trim changes and ballast operations requested by the Deck Officer on watch, and follow the Integrated Management System reporting requirements.

Required profile

• Certificate of Competency as per STCW Regulation III/2 and valid STCW endorsements.
• Valid medical certificate; must meet medical fitness standards, vaccinations and company pre-employment screening.
• At least 12 months of experience in the rank and on a similar type of vessel.
• Preferred: DP maintenance course (IMCA M 117) and DP experience where applicable.

Required skills

• Experience with AHTS or offshore support vessel engineering, including DP systems and high-power propulsion plant.
• Advantageous: training in marine engineering automation, refrigeration, high-voltage systems, DP maintenance or specialized machinery courses.
• Ability to use CMMS, technical publications and OEM manuals for maintenance planning and fault diagnosis.
• Strong communication, decision-making and supervisory skills, with the ability to lead engineering teams and mentor junior crew.
