Senior Compliance Counsel

About the role

The Senior Compliance Counsel will support the bank’s compliance function by designing, implementing and monitoring policies that mitigate AML, CFT and KYC risks. The role ensures the bank meets international standards while protecting its interests.

Key responsibilities

• Review and evaluate existing compliance policies, procedures and systems, identify gaps and propose improvements based on best practices and global trends.
• Design, develop and implement AML/CFT/KYC policies and procedural guidelines, and use them to assess internal governance.
• Prepare compliance country reports, typology studies and thematic assessments on financial‑crime trends and strategic deficiencies.
• Conduct background checks on new counterparties and provide ongoing monitoring throughout the relationship.
• Identify, report and investigate suspicious transactions and money‑laundering alerts in a timely manner.
• Respond to AML/CFT/KYC inquiries from external counterparts such as banks, corporations, governments and NGOs.

Required profile

• Master’s degree in law, Islamic law or a related discipline.
• Minimum 8 years of compliance experience, preferably in an international or multilateral development environment.
• Demonstrated experience in KYC, AML and CFT compliance.
• Advanced training or experience delivering compliance‑related training is preferred.
• Languages: English (mandatory), Arabic (preferred), French (preferred).

Required skills

• Expertise in sanctions, financial‑transaction monitoring, AML, CFT, KYC and taxation compliance.
• Ability to develop policies, procedural guidelines and institutional statements.
• Experience preparing work plans, periodic reports and budgets for compliance functions.
• Strong knowledge of international standards and regulations applicable to multilateral development banks.
