Senior Principal Legal Counsel, GCC (Excl. UAE)

About the role

Medtronic, a global healthcare technology company, is hiring a Senior Principal Legal Counsel based in Saudi Arabia, reporting directly to the Senior Legal Director for the TUMECA region. The role advises primarily the Saudi Arabia and overall GCC business on commercial operations, strategic initiatives and complex projects, working closely with business leaders to support growth, manage legal risk and ensure compliance with applicable laws, regulations, policies and procedures. It is primarily office-based, with occasional regional travel.

Key responsibilities

• Provide commercially oriented operational legal support and strategic guidance to management and business units, covering commercial, competition, employment, public procurement, regulatory, data protection, product liability and dispute matters
• Counsel business clients on legal issues relating to their operations
• Draft, review and negotiate sales, distribution, service, supply, confidentiality and collaboration agreements
• Support daily operations and functions such as HR, pricing and regulatory affairs
• Oversee and support the implementation of strategic legal projects locally
• Support the EurAsia Legal team on new processes and projects, and share best practices
• Ensure compliance with local legislation and prepare and run employee training on Medtronic policies and procedures
• Manage relationships with outside counsel to maximise quality of representation and minimise costs

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in Law and 8+ years of legal experience in an international corporation, multinational environment or law firm
• Licensed or qualified legal professional with substantial experience advising on Saudi Arabian laws and regulations
• Professional fluency in Arabic and English, written and spoken
• Experience partnering with senior business stakeholders on legal risk management and operational decisions

Preferred qualifications

• In-house legal experience in medical devices, biotechnology, pharmaceuticals or healthcare
• Experience with M&A, integration and corporate restructuring
• Experience managing distributor networks, healthcare sector agreements and public procurement in Saudi Arabia
• Studies completed outside the candidate's native country and international cross-border legal and commercial experience
