Systems Integration Engineer - Rail

About the role

Egis Group is looking for a Systems Integration Engineer to design, modernize and sustain integrations for a mission-critical, globally deployed identity and mobility platform. The role is hands-on, covering standards-based and custom integrations with external data providers, identity and verification services, biometric and peripheral devices, access-control systems and third-party platforms, from low-power edge clusters to large centralized deployments and cloud-forward AWS architectures.

Key responsibilities

• Design, build and maintain secure, reliable integrations between the platform and third-party systems using REST APIs, asynchronous messaging, secure file/data exchange and device interfaces.
• Modernize legacy integrations into Java-based microservices running in a distributed platform.
• Build integrations across edge, data center and AWS cloud deployment models.
• Engineer for resilience, observability, auditability, latency and intermittent, low-bandwidth networks.
• Integrate with identity and verification services, traveler data platforms, biometric and document-capture peripherals, and access-control and gate systems.
• Define interface contracts, schemas, versioning, retry and idempotency behavior, and certification and test approaches.
• Troubleshoot issues across application, data, messaging and network layers, working with software, cloud, network, QA, field engineering, analytics and security teams.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related field, or equivalent experience.
• Minimum 12 years of experience in software engineering or systems integration.
• Proven production experience with API integration and event-driven messaging.
• Experience in high-availability, mission-critical or regulated environments.
• Experience modernizing legacy or monolithic integrations into microservices.

Required skills

• Strong hands-on experience building Java-based distributed services.
• One or more of: RabbitMQ, Kafka, JMS, AMQP; MongoDB, Elasticsearch/OpenSearch; AWS deployment and operations.
• Understanding of authentication/authorization, certificate-based security, schema evolution, error handling and retries, and observability.
• Preferred: HashiCorp tools (Consul, Nomad, Vault), AWS-native services and infrastructure automation, ELK/Grafana/Kibana/Logstash, biometric device integration, and degraded-network environments.
