Warehouse & Inventory Accountant – Fresh Produce

About the role

This position sits at the interface between the warehouse floor and the finance ledger, ensuring that every pallet of fresh fruit and vegetables is recorded accurately in both quantity and value. The accountant will be responsible for the integrity of stock data from receipt through to the financial statements, helping to prevent costly errors in a fast‑moving environment where inventory turns every two to four days.

Key responsibilities

• Reconcile daily physical stock with system balances across five warehouse and van locations and investigate all variances.
• Perform three‑way matching of purchase orders, goods receipt notes and supplier invoices, paying special attention to foreign‑currency conversion and unit‑of‑measure differences.
• Set and maintain standard product costs, controlling any changes to cost data.
• Allocate landed costs (air freight, customs duties, clearance fees, import permits, handling) to shipments and down to SKU level.
• Plan and lead cycle counts and full physical inventories, including blind count sheets, two‑person teams and mandatory recounts for significant variances.
• Account for spoilage, damage and repacking loss separately and produce weekly waste reports.
• Monitor lot ageing, FIFO discipline and expiry exposure, flagging slow‑moving stock to procurement.
• Clear negative stock lines, open transfers and unvalidated deliveries, and enforce month‑end cut‑off.
• Reconcile the inventory control account to the stock valuation report each month and prepare the closing entry.
• Document supplier quality claims and track recovery.
• Support month‑end close with cost of goods sold, gross margin and shrinkage analysis.
• Write and enforce SOPs for receiving, scrapping and stock adjustments, and train warehouse staff.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration or a related field.
