Depots Engineer

About the role

The Depots Engineer will lead all technical, operational and maintenance activities within a rail depot, ensuring high availability and reliability of rolling stock and depot infrastructure. This senior position works closely with operations, facilities management and systems engineering teams to keep the depot ready for daily service.

Key responsibilities

• Develop, implement and monitor preventive and corrective maintenance schedules for rolling stock, depot equipment and building services.
• Coordinate planned and unplanned maintenance to maximise fleet availability in line with operational requirements.
• Manage contractor and subcontractor activities, ensuring compliance with HSE standards, quality expectations and contractual obligations.
• Monitor depot KPIs such as fleet availability, MTBF and maintenance turnaround times.
• Conduct safety inspections, audits and risk assessments, and drive corrective actions.
• Oversee testing, commissioning of new rolling stock deliveries and depot equipment installations.
• Coordinate civil works with rail systems (signalling, traction power, telecoms) and manage the depot maintenance budget.

Required profile

• B.S. or M.S. in Engineering (Electrical Engineering preferred).
• 15+ years of engineering experience, including 10+ years in rail or transit engineering in the Middle East.
• Professional Engineer (P.E.) registration preferred; extensive experience may substitute.

• Computerised Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS).
• Electrical engineering knowledge.
• RAMS principles applied to maintenance planning.
• HSE regulations and safe systems of work in depot environments.
• Preventive and corrective maintenance planning.
• Budget preparation and cost optimisation.
• Testing and commissioning of rolling stock and depot equipment.
• Civil works coordination with signalling, traction power and telecom systems.
