Assistant Field Operations Manager – Ground Magnetics

About the role

Lead the day‑to‑day delivery of FTJV ground magnetic survey operations, ensuring crews execute the approved survey plan safely, efficiently and to the required technical quality. The role blends field leadership with hands‑on magnetometer acquisition, positioning, QA/QC and data‑processing.

Key responsibilities

• Plan and issue daily/weekly ground‑magnetics survey plans, assign lines and stations, and adjust priorities for terrain, access or equipment constraints.
• Lead multiple crews, providing technical support for GEM Systems GSM‑19 Overhauser magnetometer setup, walking acquisition, console use and troubleshooting.
• Oversee field QA/QC for data completeness, line continuity, positioning quality, noise spikes and coverage gaps.
• Ensure daily magnetic data is transferred, validated, backed up and processed using GEMLink+ or approved software.
• Manage GPS/GNSS navigation, including SBAS, DGPS or RTK correction workflows where configured.
• Train and coach Senior Crew Leads, Crew Leads and field personnel in acquisition techniques, equipment handling, positioning, QA/QC and safe working practices.
• Coordinate with the Field Operations Manager and HSE team, conduct pre‑start/toolbox meetings and maintain strong HSE leadership.

Required profile

• Minimum 5 + years of ground‑magnetics experience covering field deployment, QA/QC and magnetic data processing.
• Degree or diploma in Geophysics, Geology, Surveying/Geomatics, Earth Sciences, Engineering or related discipline (or equivalent field experience).
• Proven experience supervising field crews and converting survey plans into safe, achievable daily work programs.
• Good knowledge of HSE requirements for remote field operations.
• Medically fit and willing to work hands‑on in remote desert conditions.

Required skills

• GEM Systems GSM‑19 Overhauser magnetometer operation.
• GPS/GNSS survey‑navigation, including SBAS/DGPS/RTK.
• GEMLink+ (or comparable) software for data transfer, diurnal correction, profiling and basic mapping.
• Magnetic data QA/QC and processing.
• Field crew leadership and training.
