Chief Engineer - MUV

About the role

POSH Fleet Services is looking for a Chief Engineer for its fleet of MUVs. The role leads the engine department and the maintenance of the vessel, ensuring safe and efficient operation of propulsion and auxiliary systems, planned and corrective maintenance, compliance with statutory and company requirements, and stewardship of the Safety Management System (SMS). The Chief Engineer reports to the Master, supervises marine engineering personnel and coordinates with shoreside technical support.

Key responsibilities

• Manage the engine department and maintenance, keeping operational standards and repairing hull, structure and mechanical and electrical equipment
• Maintain machinery to the company's Planned Maintenance System (PMS) and classification requirements, raise defect forms and follow up with the Technical Superintendent
• Act as Fire Team Controller and On-the-Scene Commander for firefighting, and be responsible for all fixed and portable fire-fighting equipment
• Plan and log working hours for the engine room crew and organise the emergency safety-training programme with the Chief Officer and Safety Officer
• Administer the SMS budget, including purchasing, and monitor oil, lube, engine stores and bunkers, including bunker operations and MARPOL records
• Prepare dry-docking specifications, supervise repairs and structural alterations, and ensure root cause analysis of defects
• Control engine and structure plans and manuals, keep the engine room log and the Master's log, and test emergency standby machinery
• Inspect machinery regularly, keep machinery spaces clean and safe, and supervise engineer cadets
• Operate anchor handling and towing winches as assigned by the Master (offshore)

Required profile

• Certificate of Competency as per STCW Regulation III/2 and STCW endorsements
• Valid medical certificate
• DP Maintenance course (where applicable) and DP experience per IMCA M 117 (where applicable)
• Minimum 12 months of experience in rank and similar type of vessel
• Ability to work in engine rooms, confined spaces and machinery spaces, and to comply with medical fitness and pre-employment screening requirements

Required skills

• Technical expertise, problem solving and leadership
• Experience on AHTS or other offshore support vessels, dynamic positioning, thruster systems and cargo/mission-specific machinery preferred
• Training or certification in electrical systems, automation, hydraulics or specialist machinery maintenance is advantageous
• Ability to diagnose faults, plan overhauls and supervise major repairs or drydock projects
