Electrical Department Manager

About the role

The Electrical Department Manager leads the electrical engineering function for large‑scale projects in the oil, gas, refinery, offshore or infrastructure sectors. Reporting to the Principal Electrical Engineer, the role ensures that design, documentation and execution meet the highest technical, safety and quality standards.

Key responsibilities

• Coordinate with the Principal Electrical Engineer to implement project designs and oversee Lead Engineers.
• Prepare, review and approve electrical studies, design drawings, specifications and material lists.
• Resolve complex electrical engineering issues using accepted codes, standards and best practices.
• Define project scopes, schedules and departmental procedures, ensuring alignment with other departments and client requirements.
• Lead budgeting, staffing, training, performance evaluations and timesheet approvals for the department.
• Participate in long‑range planning, set project objectives and provide expert advice on design and process improvements.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering; professional engineer registration required.
• Minimum 25 years of experience in electrical engineering on large to mega projects, preferably in oil/gas, hydrocarbon, refinery, offshore or infrastructure.
• Master’s degree is desirable.
• Proven leadership experience, including staffing, budgeting and quality management.

Required skills

• Advanced electrical engineering design and analysis.
• Protection calculation methods and equipment specification.
• In‑depth knowledge of international electrical codes and standards (e.g., IEC, NEC).
• Development of detailed design documentation and technical specifications.
