Head Nurse

About the role

The Head Nurse leads nursing activities within an assigned ward, ensuring high‑quality patient care and compliance with unit standards. This senior position oversees staff performance, orientation, and continuous education while maintaining effective communication with the multidisciplinary healthcare team.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and annually update a nursing staffing plan to meet unit demands.
• Verify professional licenses and certifications (SCFHS, BLS, ACLS, PALS, NRP) for all nursing staff.
• Facilitate new‑staff orientation, integration, and ongoing training programs.
• Monitor job performance, conduct regular evaluations, and provide feedback.
• Coordinate in‑service sessions, competency‑based programs, and CME courses.
• Prepare monthly duty rosters, manage vacation plans, on‑call schedules, and overtime requests.
• Recommend staff recognition, promotions, contract renewals, or disciplinary actions as needed.
• Maintain therapeutic communication with all healthcare team members.

Required profile

• Relevant nursing qualification with registration in Saudi Council for Health Specialties.
• Proven experience in nursing supervision or management.
• Strong organizational and leadership abilities.
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.

Required skills

• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
• Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification.
• Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification.
• Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification.
