Protection Engineer – BESS Infrastructure

About the role

The Protection Engineer will be responsible for designing, reviewing and verifying protection settings and logic for Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) infrastructure, covering substations, transformers and inverters. The role ensures reliable operation of high, medium and low voltage protection systems while complying with regional standards.

Key responsibilities

• Design, review and verify protection settings and logic for BESS infrastructure, including substations, transformers and inverters.
• Perform calculations, coordination studies and fault analysis for HV, MV and LV protection systems.
• Oversee testing, pre‑commissioning and commissioning of protection relays (e.g., SECO, Siemens, ABB, Schneider).
• Troubleshoot complex protection system issues, investigate trippings and implement corrective actions.
• Ensure all engineering activities comply with GCC standards, SEC regulations and project safety guidelines.
• Coordinate with site operations, sub‑contractors and grid authorities during integration phases.

Required profile

• Proven experience in protection engineering for HV, MV and LV systems.
• Familiarity with GCC standards, SEC regulations and safety procedures.
• Strong analytical skills for fault analysis and coordination studies.
• Ability to work closely with site teams, subcontractors and grid authorities.

Required skills

• Protection relay configuration and testing (SECO, Siemens, ABB, Schneider).
• Fault analysis and coordination studies for high, medium and low voltage systems.
• Design and verification of protection logic for BESS, substations, transformers and inverters.
• Pre‑commissioning and commissioning of protection equipment.
