Senior Blackboard Ultra Consultant

About the role

We are looking for a Senior Blackboard Learn Ultra Consultant to take full technical and functional ownership of a live Blackboard Learn Ultra environment. The consultant will act as the single point of delivery accountability, partnering with IT, academic affairs, registrar teams, faculty and other stakeholders to stabilize, optimise, enable and eventually transfer the platform.

Key responsibilities

• Assess the current production, test and staging environments, inventory configurations, licenses, users, courses and integrations, and define a remediation backlog with risks, dependencies and timelines.
• Profile, cleanse and remediate Blackboard data – users, courses, enrollments, roles, hierarchy nodes – and improve access‑review, joiner/mover/leaver and privileged‑account processes.
• Stabilise identity and SIS integration feeds, implement monitoring, alerting, recovery and back‑fill procedures, and develop comprehensive test scenarios.
• Maintain a register of licensed Blackboard capabilities, configure Ultra features, enforce least‑privilege security, and establish test‑stage‑to‑production release and regression‑testing processes.
• Design and implement institutional Ultra course templates, standardise navigation, learning modules, assessment structures, gradebook practices and accessibility compliance.
• Develop reusable assessment rubrics, question banks, learning outcomes hierarchies and map them to assignments and tests.

Required profile

• Proven senior‑level experience managing Blackboard Learn Ultra environments in higher‑education settings.
• Strong background in data remediation, identity management and SIS integrations.
• Demonstrated ability to lead cross‑functional stakeholder interviews, define project scope and deliver technical solutions end‑to‑end.
• Experience documenting processes, providing operational support and transferring knowledge to internal teams.
