Senior Structural Engineer - Drilling Rigs

About the role

H&P is hiring a Senior Structural Engineer for its Saudi Arabia office, part of the Middle East Engineering Support team. The engineer works with regional and operational managers, drafts and field inspectors, and other H&P groups such as Marketing, Bids & Contracts and Maintenance and Overhaul. The role covers drilling rig design projects, large-scale project management, critical event advisory and CAT III & IV inspection issues, and includes mentoring junior engineers.

Key responsibilities

• Coordinate construction projects with local fabricators and the H&P Houston assembly facility.
• Design new structures and analyze current builds for modification projects.
• Create and distribute Certificate of Compliance documents for H&P designs.
• Work with International Marketing groups on proposals, budget estimates and schedules.
• Formalize technical reports from design analysis and review coworker design packages.
• Write standardized technical letters on rig functions and equipment design for customer feedback.
• Provide technical support for structural repairs, field upgrades and CAT III & IV inspections.
• Mentor junior engineers and conduct field audits and reviews of existing equipment.
• Travel to fabrication, assembly and rig sites, including occasional overnight stays.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in Civil or Structural Engineering or equivalent from an accredited university.
• Saudi Consul of Engineering certification.
• Minimum 8 years of structural design experience, including drilling rig design.
• Professional Engineer license.
• Ability to lead projects autonomously and mentor others.

Required skills

• AISC design practices and API specifications and recommended practices.
• General structural steel fabrication practices and hydraulic systems.
• Hand calculations, computer-aided design analysis and formalized design reports.
• Microsoft Office Suite and CAD software.
