Senior Traffic & Detour Engineer

About the role

The Senior Traffic & Detour Engineer will plan, design, review and supervise temporary traffic management schemes and detours for road and bridge construction projects in Saudi Arabia. The role ensures safety, efficiency and full compliance with Saudi traffic regulations and project requirements.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare and review Traffic Management Plans (TMPs) and detour designs in coordination with design and construction teams.
• Ensure compliance with MOT/RCRC traffic standards, Saudi Building Codes and safety regulations.
• Coordinate with traffic police, municipalities, utilities and client representatives to obtain approvals for detours and road closures.
• Implement international and local best practices for work‑zone road safety.
• Monitor site implementation of signage, barriers, lighting and other traffic control measures.
• Conduct risk assessments for detour operations and recommend mitigation measures.
• Supervise contractor’s traffic management and detour works on‑site.
• Inspect installed detours and traffic arrangements to verify correct execution and maintenance.
• Maintain continuous accessibility for emergency services, local residents and businesses during construction.
• Liaise with clients, authorities and other stakeholders regarding traffic diversions and road closures.
• Provide technical advice for unexpected site traffic issues and support project scheduling to minimise disruption.

Required profile

• Minimum 15 years (180 months) of experience in traffic and detour engineering.
• Proven experience with temporary traffic management for road and bridge construction projects.
• Familiarity with Saudi MOT/RCRC traffic regulations and relevant safety standards.
• Ability to coordinate with multiple authorities and stakeholders.
• Strong supervision, inspection and risk‑assessment capabilities.
