Ubuntu Linux Kernel Engineer – Silicon Enablement

About the role

Canonical is expanding Ubuntu’s support for System‑on‑Chip platforms and needs engineers who can bridge software and hardware. As an Ubuntu Linux Kernel Engineer you will work on silicon enablement, ensuring Ubuntu runs optimally on chips from partners such as NVIDIA, Xilinx, MediaTek and Qualcomm.

Key responsibilities

• Collaborate with a globally distributed kernel team and silicon vendors.
• Integrate vendor platform support into the Ubuntu Linux kernel.
• Diagnose, reproduce and resolve kernel issues reported by partners, customers or discovered through testing.
• Deliver silicon‑optimised kernel variants and maintain their release pipeline.
• Improve tooling and automation for kernel build, test and delivery.
• Submit, review and apply kernel patches in coordination with upstream maintainers.
• Identify and implement performance enhancements for partner silicon.

Required profile

• Well‑organised, self‑motivated professional comfortable working remotely.
• Strong software‑engineering aptitude at the hardware level.
• At least 24 months of experience in low‑level software development (kernel, RTOS or bare‑metal).
• Ability to communicate effectively with internal teams and external partners.
