Assistant Chief Steward

About the role

The Assistant Chief Steward supports the steward team in a busy hotel environment, ensuring efficient clean‑up, proper chemical management, and smooth banquet operations. This on‑site position reports to the Chief Steward and works closely with kitchen and banquet staff.

Key responsibilities

• Direct and assist stewards to improve clean‑up efficiency.
• Monitor water temperature and chemical levels, documenting compliance.
• Assist with banquet plate‑ups and support buffet service by transporting stock.
• Provide cooks and kitchen staff with required items and return cleaned equipment to proper locations.
• Operate and maintain dishwashing machines, hand‑wash stations, pot‑scrubbing stations, and trash compactors.
• Support management in hiring, training, scheduling, evaluating, counseling, disciplining, and coaching employees.
• Follow all safety, security, and company policies; report accidents and complete safety training.
• Maintain professional uniform appearance and protect company assets.
• Welcome guests, anticipate service needs, and communicate professionally.

Required profile

• High school diploma or G.E.D. equivalent.
• Minimum 2 years of relevant hospitality or stewarding experience.
• At least 1 year of supervisory experience.
• No specific license or certification required.

Required skills

• Operation of dishwashing and cleaning equipment.
• Management of cleaning chemicals and temperature controls.
• Physical ability to lift up to 50 lb and perform extended standing, walking, and reaching tasks.
