Assistant Driller – Saudi Arabia

About the role

The Assistant Driller supports the Driller on rig operations in Saudi Arabia, ensuring tasks are completed efficiently and safely. This role steps in for the Driller when needed and helps manage the drilling crew while adhering to KCA DEUTAG quality and safety standards.

Key responsibilities

• Maintain order, cleanliness, and housekeeping at the rig site.
• Supervise and assist with the preparation, loading, and storage of drilling equipment.
• Replace the Derrickman and, when required, the Driller during specific operations.
• Inspect the derrick/mast and related equipment, record findings, and coordinate defect corrections.
• Oversee maintenance of sheaves, drill string condition, and rig‑floor handling of equipment.
• Apply client kick‑control procedures under the Driller’s direction.
• Perform any job requested by the Driller or Tool Pusher within competence.

Required profile

• Minimum 5 years of supervisory experience in drilling operations.
• IWCF Well Control Certification or equivalent (Wellsharp).
• Banksman and Slinger certificates.
• Proven ability to train, coach, and mentor multinational crews.
• Strong oral and written communication skills.
