Embedded Systems Engineer – Firmware for Connected Telematics

About the role

Our telematics devices capture vehicle and asset data, process it at the edge and stream it securely to the cloud. As an Embedded Systems Engineer you will design and build the firmware that runs on these constrained microcontrollers, ensuring reliable over‑the‑air updates and robust connectivity.

Key responsibilities

• Design, write and maintain C/C++ firmware for microcontrollers on RTOS (FreeRTOS/Zephyr) or bare‑metal.
• Develop device drivers and low‑level interfaces such as UART, SPI, I2C, ADC, GPIO and DMA.
• Implement vehicle data acquisition over CAN, OBD‑II, J1939 and Modbus.
• Build cellular connectivity and telemetry using MQTT, TCP/IP, TLS and, where relevant, CoAP/HTTP.
• Design OTA firmware update mechanisms with rollback and integrity checks.
• Optimize firmware for low power consumption, memory footprint and long‑term field reliability.
• Collaborate with hardware engineers during board bring‑up and with platform teams on device‑to‑cloud data contracts.
• Write unit and integration tests, debug with JTAG/SWD and support field diagnostics.

Required profile

• Degree in Computer/Electronic Engineering, Computer Science or equivalent.
• At least 3 years of embedded development experience.
• Strong C (and preferably C++) programming on resource‑constrained microcontrollers.
• Hands‑on experience with RTOS concepts, interrupts and real‑time constraints.
• Practical experience with serial protocols (UART, SPI, I2C) and at least one vehicle bus (CAN/OBD‑II).
• Experience with cellular or wireless connectivity and MQTT/TCP‑IP networking.
• Comfortable using hardware debug tools such as oscilloscope, logic analyser and JTAG/SWD.
