Health Safety Environment Trainee

About the role

The Health Safety Environment (HSE) Trainee will support the HSE team in a busy port and logistics environment. This role offers practical exposure to occupational health and safety management, including inspections, risk assessments and incident handling.

Key responsibilities

• Assist in conducting workplace safety inspections and observations.
• Support monitoring of compliance with safety procedures and company policies.
• Participate in incident reporting and investigations under supervision.
• Help carry out risk assessments and identify workplace hazards.
• Maintain HSE records, reports and documentation.
• Support safety induction programs for employees, contractors and visitors.
• Assist in organizing safety training sessions, toolbox talks and awareness campaigns.
• Monitor the availability and proper use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
• Participate in emergency drills and safety exercises.
• Conduct routine site walks with HSE personnel to observe operational safety practices.
• Support development and review of Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and risk assessments.
• Collect safety performance data and prepare reports.
• Perform other HSE‑related duties as assigned by the supervisor.

Required profile

• Recent graduate or final‑year student in Engineering, Occupational Health & Safety, Environmental Science, Industrial Engineering or a related discipline.
• Eligible for Co‑op Training or Tamheer Program.
• Basic knowledge of occupational health and safety principles.
• HSE certifications such as NEBOSH, IOSH or OSHA are an advantage.
