School Counsellor – Student Mental Health Support

About the role

The Counsellor will provide continuous, unwavering mental‑health support to students within Misk Schools, focusing on the social and emotional development of those with additional needs. The role involves direct counselling, assessment, and collaboration with families, school staff, and external agencies.

Key responsibilities

• Liaise with students, parents, academic staff and external agencies such as approved educational psychologists.
• Conduct individual and group counselling sessions addressing self‑esteem, anger, time management, academic coping, friendships, grief and depression.
• Provide specialist psychotherapeutic assessments and develop tailored programmes of care.
• Observe and interpret student behaviour to create a safe, supportive environment.
• Participate in core group meetings and multidisciplinary planning with schools, hospitals and child‑protection agencies.
• Monitor and review treatment outcomes, offering psycho‑analytic advice and supervision to other professionals.
• Collaborate with the assistant principal on wellbeing initiatives, including puberty talks, staff INSET sessions and parent workshops.
• Maintain cultural sensitivity to mental‑health perspectives within a Saudi Arabian school context.
• Undertake risk assessments, risk management and safeguarding duties.
• Engage in regular clinical supervision and continuing professional development.

Required profile

• Qualified child psychotherapist or counsellor with experience supporting children and adolescents.
• Demonstrated ability to work within multidisciplinary teams and coordinate with external agencies.
• Strong understanding of safeguarding policies and child‑protection procedures.
• Awareness of cultural considerations affecting mental‑health practice in Saudi Arabia.
• Experience delivering both individual and group therapeutic interventions.
• Commitment to ongoing professional development and clinical supervision.
