Technical Support Engineer (Protection Engineering)

About the role

We are seeking a Technical Support Engineer specialized in Protection Engineering to join our utility‑scale Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) projects in Bisha, Saudi Arabia. The role involves configuring, testing and commissioning protection systems, ensuring reliable grid integration and supporting on‑site commissioning activities.

Key responsibilities

• Configure, test and commission protection relays for BESS projects.
• Perform protection coordination and calculate relay settings.
• Troubleshoot protection and control system issues on site.
• Provide FAT, SAT and energization support.
• Review protection philosophy, single‑line diagrams, schematics and logic diagrams.
• Support grid compliance and utility interface requirements.
• Coordinate with PCS, EMS, SCADA and commissioning teams.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field.
• Minimum 1 year of experience in protection and control systems.
• Experience with BESS, substation, solar or other renewable energy projects.
• Ability to support FAT, SAT and energization activities.
• Strong troubleshooting and site coordination capabilities.
• Proficient English communication skills.

Required skills

• Protection relay configuration, testing and commissioning.
• Protection coordination and relay settings calculation.
• Familiarity with Siemens SIPROTEC, SEL, ABB and GE Multilin relays.
• Knowledge of IEC 61850, SCADA, Modbus and GOOSE communication protocols.
• Experience with relay testing and commissioning tools.
• Familiarity with ETAP, PowerFactory or SKM software (preferred).
