Control Room Operator

About the role

The Control Room Operator is responsible for monitoring and controlling plant operating parameters, ensuring safe and efficient operation of the unit. The role works closely with other operators and follows the direction of the Shift Charge Engineer and Shift Supervisor.

Key responsibilities

• Comply with safety rules, fire equipment procedures, and plant documentation such as P&IDs, SOPs, and emergency operation procedures.
• Monitor all unit parameters, record periodic readings, and summarize shift activities in the log book.
• Coordinate with other operators, respond quickly to abnormal conditions, and execute Lock Out & Tag Out procedures during maintenance.
• Inspect equipment, perform protection tests under supervision, and raise work requests for faulty equipment.
• Assist in training new operators, report near‑misses, and ensure proper waste disposal and environmental compliance.

Required profile

• Bachelor of Engineering or Engineering Diploma.
• Minimum 5 years of experience in a similar control‑room position.
• Familiarity with power or water plant operational activities.
• Good analytical, interpersonal, and hazard‑risk assessment capabilities.

Required skills

• Knowledge of plant P&IDs, SOPs, and control logics.
• Understanding of ISO 9001, ISO 14001, and OHSAS 18001 standards.
• Basic computer skills.
• Knowledge of fire‑fighting equipment, PPE, first‑aid measures, and waste classification.
