Data Center Hardware & Equipment Specialist

About the role

The Data Center Hardware & Equipment Specialist supports KAUST's flagship supercomputer facility by ensuring the physical infrastructure is secure, reliable, and compliant. Working within the Scientific Computing Center and other data centers, you will manage servers, GPUs, and related equipment for high‑performance computing environments.

Key responsibilities

• Install, configure, and maintain servers, including GPU nodes, in the CRAY supercomputer environment.
• Perform regular inspections, preventive maintenance, and physical condition monitoring of all data‑center hardware.
• Maintain and update the hardware asset register and ensure compliance with tracking processes.
• Manage network cabling, server hardware, and backup part inventory in collaboration with vendors.
• Respond to alarms and incidents, providing immediate resolution and detailed documentation.
• Work with compliance officers to meet export‑control regulations and NIST SP 800‑53 standards.
• Collaborate with procurement teams to acquire required equipment and ensure capacity planning.

Required profile

• Demonstrated expertise with HPE/CRAY supercomputer hardware, servers, storage, and networking equipment.
• Strong understanding of HPC architectures and GPU optimization.
• Ability to communicate effectively with cross‑functional stakeholders.
• Analytical mindset for troubleshooting complex hardware issues.
• Flexibility to adapt to evolving technologies and business needs.
