Linux Software Engineer – Ubuntu for Next‑Gen Silicon (Remote)

About the role

Canonical’s Partner Engineering team is seeking Linux Software Engineers to work on Ubuntu for next‑generation silicon. The position is fully remote and supports a range of seniority levels, focusing on optimizing Ubuntu for new hardware accelerators, AI stacks, confidential computing, networking, virtualization and containerisation across x86, ARM, RISC‑V, PowerPC and s390x architectures.

Key responsibilities

• Collaborate proactively with a globally distributed team to deliver high‑quality software.
• Maintain and improve Ubuntu’s silicon‑enablement packages, ensuring seamless user experience across servers, HPC, AI, IoT, PCs, SmartNICs and automotive systems.
• Evaluate contributions from other engineers and uphold software standards.
• Engage with Ubuntu and Debian communities, upstream projects and commercial customers.
• Debug open‑source and team‑maintained code, and assist customers in integrating applications, SDKs and building OS images.

Required profile

• Passionate about open‑source software and Linux distribution development.
• Comfortable working in a remote, collaborative environment.
• Ability to understand and optimise hardware‑specific software stacks.
