Senior Mechanical Engineer – Water Infrastructure

About the role

Surbana Jurong is seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer to lead the mechanical design of water infrastructure projects in Saudi Arabia. The role supports Vision 2030 water security objectives by delivering design excellence for pumping stations, desalination plants, and water/wastewater treatment facilities.

Key responsibilities

• Lead detailed mechanical design of water pumping stations, including pump selection, hydraulic performance and surge protection.
• Develop process and mechanical designs for desalination (SWRO, MSF, MED) and water/wastewater treatment plants, producing PFDs, P&IDs and equipment datasheets.
• Prepare engineering calculations, design reports, technical specifications, BOQs and IFC drawings in line with Saudi standards (MOWE, NWC, SWCC) and international codes (BS, ISO, ASME, AWWA).
• Conduct hydraulic transient and surge analysis using HAMMER or equivalent software and specify mitigation equipment.
• Coordinate mechanical interfaces with civil, structural, electrical, instrumentation and SCADA disciplines, support authority submissions and client reviews.
• Provide construction‑stage technical support, review contractor submittals, shop drawings and O&M documentation, and attend site visits.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering.
• 10‑15 years of mechanical engineering experience in water infrastructure, preferably in the GCC or KSA.
• Proven design experience on pumping stations, desalination plants and water/wastewater treatment works.
• Familiarity with Saudi water design standards (MOWE, NWC, SWCC).

Required skills

• Mechanical design of water infrastructure facilities.

• 3D/2D CAD modelling tools.
• Development of PFDs and P&IDs.
• Preparation of equipment datasheets, BOQs and IFC drawings.
