Staff Test Engineer, Powertrain

About the role

The Staff Manufacturing Test Engineer – Powertrain is a senior technical leader responsible for defining, integrating, and sustaining test strategies across Lucid’s electric powertrain systems, including traction inverters, drive units, and high‑voltage battery assemblies. The role focuses on systems‑level test ownership, ensuring consistent architecture, data strategy, safety standards, and validation methodology.

Key responsibilities

• Serve as the manufacturing test technical authority for inverter, drive‑unit, and battery test architectures.
• Review and approve powertrain‑level test strategies, specifications, and major change requests.
• Define common test principles for end‑of‑line and in‑process testing, covering sequencing, limit strategies, failure‑mode handling, safety, and data traceability.
• Guide test system designs to meet HV/LV safety, grounding, shielding, thermal, and connectorization standards.
• Mentor commodity‑focused test engineers during development, commissioning, and production ramp‑up.
• Lead technical reviews for externally supplied test equipment, including RFQs, supplier selection, architecture reviews, and validation.
• Partner with Controls Engineering to integrate test applications with PLCs, dynos, load systems, and other station hardware.

• Senior technical authority with cross‑functional leadership experience.
• Proven ability to scale test solutions across multiple powertrain commodities.
• Experience mentoring engineers and driving technical reviews.
• Strong collaboration skills with design, quality, production, and external suppliers.

• PLC integration and programming for test applications.
