Technical Manager

About the role

The Technical Manager provides engineering support and technical consultancy to ACWA‑operated power generation and water desalination facilities. The role focuses on troubleshooting operational issues, evaluating material performance, reviewing plant designs, and driving initiatives that improve availability, reduce O&M costs, and extend plant life.

Key responsibilities

• Verify design specifications and system standards of major plant equipment installed by EPC contractors.
• Develop scopes of work and functional requirements for equipment modifications.
• Assist plant management and O&M crews in analysing system upsets, recommending corrective actions and preventing recurrences.
• Conduct Residual Life Assessment studies for critical equipment and propose life‑extension measures.
• Lead technical studies on process optimisation, corrosion, scaling, environmental impact, and material suitability for power and desalination plants.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering.
• Minimum 20 years of experience in power generation, renewable energy and water desalination, including 16 years in senior O&M roles for combined‑cycle and MED/SWRO plants.

Required skills

• Thermal design and rating of heat exchangers.
• Root cause analysis and troubleshooting of process equipment failures.
• Water desalination technologies (MED, SWRO) and pretreatment optimisation.
• Risk‑Based Inspection and Residual Life Assessment.
• Material and energy balance, hydraulic calculations, and system protection analyses.
• Material performance, corrosion assessment, and selection of chemicals and alloys.
• Engineering calculations, feasibility studies, and technical report writing.
