Director of Purchasing

About the role

Our client seeks a Director of Purchasing to lead the procurement function, define sourcing strategy and ensure reliable, cost-effective supply of materials, equipment and services across the organization.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and execute overall procurement strategy, including category strategies for direct, indirect, capital equipment and services.
• Lead, coach and manage the purchasing team, set objectives, KPIs and development plans.
• Oversee supplier selection, qualification, performance management and build strategic partnerships.
• Negotiate pricing, contracts, terms and long-term agreements; manage contract lifecycle.
• Drive year-over-year cost savings and total-cost-of-ownership improvements while maintaining quality and delivery.
• Identify supply risks, create contingency and dual-sourcing plans, monitor supplier financial health.
• Establish procurement policies, approval workflows and ethical sourcing standards.
• Collaborate with planning, operations, engineering and quality on inventory strategy, new product sourcing and cost-reduction initiatives.
• Manage procurement systems (ERP/MRP), report spend, savings and market trends to executive leadership.
• Prepare and control the procurement department budget.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, Engineering or related field.
• 8–10 years of progressive procurement experience, including at least 3 years in a leadership role, preferably in manufacturing.
• Proven record of delivering cost savings and leading complex supplier negotiations.
