Field Operator – Hydrogen Production Plant

About the role

The HYCO Field Operator is responsible for the day‑to‑day field operation of a hydrogen production facility that includes a Steam Methane Reformer, hydrodesulfurization, shift converters, CO₂ removal and compression, methanator, PSA, tail‑gas compression, membrane unit and associated utilities. Reporting to the DCS Operator and Shift Supervisor, the role ensures that production targets set by the refinery customer are consistently met while maintaining the highest safety and environmental standards.

Key responsibilities

• Monitor and operate all plant units, performing routine checks, startups, shutdowns and first‑line troubleshooting.
• Maintain accurate documentation for safety‑related activities and production data.
• Execute Lockout‑Tagout (LOTO), permit‑to‑work (hot work, confined space) and PPE requirements for all field tasks.
• Participate in Process Hazard Analyses (PHA) and ensure compliance with process safety, MOC and OPHR procedures.
• Act as a certified first responder for emergencies, including fire, gas leaks and emergency shutdowns.
• Ensure all operations comply with environmental permits and company policies.

Required profile

• Experience in field operation of hydrogen or industrial gas production facilities.
• Strong understanding of safety, health and environmental regulations in a refinery environment.
• Ability to work round‑the‑clock in a high‑pressure, high‑risk industrial setting.
• Effective communication with DCS operators, shift supervisors and maintenance teams.
