Principal Equipment Design Engineer - Power Generation

About the role

kbr is looking for a Principal Mechanical Engineer with extensive experience designing, specifying and technically leading power generation equipment and its auxiliary systems for thermal power plants. The role covers FEED, detailed engineering, procurement support and technical assurance on medium to large-scale projects (700 MW and above), and leads and mentors a team of engineers and designers.

Key responsibilities

• Lead, supervise and mentor a team of mechanical engineers and designers
• Develop engineering execution plans, deliverable registers, manpower plans and schedules
• Ensure compliance with project requirements, codes, standards, specifications and company procedures
• Review and approve equipment data sheets, technical specifications, calculations and deliverables
• Lead technical bid evaluations and provide procurement support for mechanical equipment and packages
• Review, coordinate and approve vendor drawings and documentation
• Coordinate with other disciplines and stakeholders, and guide project teams, clients and vendors
• Take part in design reviews, risk assessments, constructability reviews and value engineering studies
• Drive safety, reliability, maintainability, sustainability and cost optimisation initiatives
• Monitor progress, manage technical risks, support client meetings, audits and technical presentations, and ensure QA requirements are met

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering from an accredited university
• Minimum 15 years of relevant experience in power generation projects, including FEED, detailed engineering and procurement support
• Demonstrated experience on large-scale projects (700 MW and above)
• Experience in combined-cycle, cogeneration or conventional thermal power plants
• Professional Engineer (PE), Chartered Engineer (CEng) or equivalent certification is desirable
• Oil & Gas, industrial utilities or energy transition experience is an advantage

Required skills

• Knowledge of ASME, ANSI, API, NFPA, OSHA, ISA, NEC, IEC and other power industry standards
• Design, procurement, installation, mechanical completion, pre-commissioning, commissioning, startup and performance testing of power generation equipment
• Working knowledge of power plant simulation software such as Thermoflow, GT PRO, GateCycle or PEPSE is highly desirable
• Recognised subject matter expert able to lead technical work and support root cause investigations
