Principal Quantity Surveyor – Lead Cost Management

About the role

Parsons is seeking a Principal Quantity Surveyor to lead and oversee quantity surveying activities across architecture, civil, structural and MEP construction projects. The role covers building types such as residential, educational, medical and industrial facilities, as well as infrastructure works like roads, bridges and underground utilities.

Key responsibilities

• Manage quantity take‑offs, cost analysis and payment certifications to keep projects within budget and schedule.
• Conduct detailed material quantity take‑offs from design and shop drawings for all disciplines.
• Maintain and update schedules of quantities and unit prices for cost control.
• Prepare cost estimates and quantity assessments for variations and additional works.
• Lead negotiations with contractors on change orders and review monthly progress invoices.
• Perform site inspections to verify work against contract specifications and act as Resident Construction Engineer when required.
• Provide cost‑engineering advice, identify value‑engineering opportunities and coordinate with project controls and planning teams.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Quantity Surveying or a related discipline.
• Minimum 10 years post‑graduate experience in quantity surveying for building and infrastructure projects.
• Proven track record managing medium to large‑scale construction projects.
• Experience working in multidisciplinary teams and interfacing with engineering, procurement and construction groups.
• Knowledge of FIDIC or other standard forms of contract.
