Shipboard Cook

About the role

POSH Fleet Services is seeking a professional shipboard Cook to prepare meals and manage the galley aboard its fleet. The Cook reports to the Master for cooking and general duties and to the Chief Cook or designated supervisor where applicable, ensuring compliance with company culinary standards and maritime health regulations.

Key responsibilities

• Provide regular meals of an acceptable standard at the designated times.
• Keep the galley, storerooms, cool rooms, freezers, mess rooms, cabins, toilets and communal areas clean, and ensure galley staff use appropriate PPE and cut-resistant gloves when chopping.
• Ensure galley staff are suitably qualified, including Food Handling Certification, and supervise the handling of stores and advise on suppliers.
• Implement the vessel's Garbage Management Plan in line with MARPOL requirements, liaising with the Master and Chief Officer on garbage segregation and disposal.
• Keep the Master informed of remaining and required stores.

Required profile

• Cook certification and a valid medical certificate.
• At least 12 months of experience in ranks.
• Ability to work in a confined galley, lift, stand for long periods and work in varying sea conditions.
• Compliance with medical fitness standards, vaccinations and company pre-employment screening.

Preferred skills

• Experience as a shipboard Cook or Chief Cook, or in large-scale catering for offshore or maritime clients.
• Additional culinary training, nutrition or food safety courses.
• Experience managing provisioning budgets, optimizing supplies for long voyages and minimizing food waste.
• Supervising or mentoring junior galley staff.
