About the role

Join a high‑caliber engineering team as an experienced Backend Developer, designing and improving robust backend APIs while collaborating with cutting‑edge AI research. This remote, part‑time contract role focuses on shaping the next generation of developer tools.

Key responsibilities

• Design, develop, and optimise REST and GraphQL endpoints for scalable APIs.
• Implement data validation, error handling, and security best practices.
• Plan and execute database migrations, performance optimisations, and schema changes.
• Test new AI‑powered models in Cursor, providing detailed incident reports, bug traces, and screenshots.
• Participate in intensive 4‑day testing bursts to evaluate AI impact on coding workflows.
• Engage with the research team via a dedicated Slack channel to discuss findings and propose improvements.
• Submit post‑burst surveys delivering insights on model performance and developer experience.

Required profile

• 3+ years of professional backend development experience with strong Python expertise.
• Proficiency in building and maintaining RESTful and GraphQL APIs.
• Advanced knowledge of data validation, error handling, and API security.
• Hands‑on experience with database migrations, performance tuning, and schema design.
• Extensive use of AI coding tools; familiarity with Cursor is highly desirable.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to thrive in fast‑paced, confidential, collaborative remote environments.
