Automation Engineer – Powertrain

About the role

Lucid is seeking an Automation Engineer to support the development, deployment, and optimization of automated manufacturing equipment used in Powertrain production. You will work under senior automation engineers, contributing to continuous‑improvement initiatives and helping transition equipment from development to full production.

Key responsibilities

• Implement and maintain equipment control systems, including I/Os and fundamental machine logic.
• Assist with layout engineering to optimize Powertrain line layouts, material flow, and equipment integration.
• Support automation systems such as robotics, end‑of‑arm tooling, pick‑and‑place, sensors, material handling, fluid dispensing, vision, conveyors, and laser cleaning or welding.
• Apply company, factory, and line‑level control standards when developing or modifying equipment controls.
• Enable data collection and connectivity for traceability, machine status reporting, and process monitoring.
• Write, modify, and debug PLC code with emphasis on structure, documentation, and maintainability.
• Integrate PLCs with subsystems including conveyors, robots, MES, vision systems, and third‑party equipment.
• Implement safety‑related control functions in accordance with ANSI/RIA15.06 and OSHA requirements.
• Develop and update HMI screens for equipment operation, alarms, and troubleshooting.
• Support external equipment integrators during equipment commissioning.

Required profile

• Experience working on automation projects in a manufacturing environment.
• Ability to collaborate with Manufacturing, Controls, Quality, Maintenance, and external partners.
• Strong problem‑solving skills and attention to safety and quality standards.

Required skills

• PLC programming and debugging.
• Human‑Machine Interface (HMI) development.
• Robotics integration and end‑of‑arm tooling.
• Machine vision system integration.
• Manufacturing Execution System (MES) interfacing.
• Knowledge of ANSI/RIA15.06 safety standards and OSHA requirements.
