CSSD Technician

About the role

The CSSD Technician is responsible for routine technical tasks in the Central Sterile Services Department, ensuring all sterile items are processed, documented, and distributed according to JCIA and CBAHI standards. The role involves handling contaminated instruments, performing decontamination, sterilization, packaging, and delivering sterile supplies to clinical areas.

Key responsibilities

• Receive and decontaminate used items from assigned areas using ultrasonic cleaners and automated cart washers.
• Label packages correctly, load and unload sterilizers, and adhere to infection‑control protocols with appropriate PPE.
• Assemble and pack instrument sets using proper materials and aseptic techniques.
• Store sterilized items safely until needed and transport them to clinical units.
• Perform daily sterilizer testing (warm‑up cycle, Bowie‑Dick test, spore test, leak test) and use chemical indicators for quality control.
• Mentor new staff, conduct training sessions, and act as CSSD Supervisor in their absence.
• Assist the Supervisor in evaluating staff performance and participate in patient‑centered care initiatives.

Required profile

• Diploma or equivalent in Sterilization or related field.
• Minimum 2 years of experience in a similar CSSD role.
• Saudi Council professional license.

Required skills

• Operation of ultrasonic cleaning machines.
• Use of automated cart washers and washer‑disinfectors.
• Handling of steam sterilizers and sealing devices.
• Labeling, packaging, and storage of sterile instrument sets.
• Conducting sterilizer performance tests (Bowie‑Dick, spore, leak).
• Application of chemical indicators for quality control.
• Proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and infection‑control procedures.
