Mechanical Design Engineer

About the role

The Dream Realization Lab (DRL) is seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer who can move fluidly between digital design and hands‑on prototyping. You will work across the full product development cycle, from concept exploration to detailed design, testing, and documentation, collaborating with electrical, controls, and industrial design teams.

Key responsibilities

• Design 3D parts and assemblies in SolidWorks, creating clean parametric models and detailed engineering drawings.
• Apply DFM, DFA, and DFR principles to ensure manufacturability, assemblability, and serviceability.
• Perform tolerance analysis and produce GD&T‑annotated drawings for internal fabrication.
• Build, test, and iterate physical prototypes using FDM, resin, metal 3D printing, laser cutting, CNC machining, and manual fabrication.
• Use 3D scanning and reverse‑engineering workflows to digitize existing components.
• Plan and execute structured testing, iterating designs based on results.
• Produce complete engineering documentation: drawings, BOMs, assembly instructions, and design rationale.
• Contribute to improving lab tools, workflows, and processes.

Required profile

• A degree in Mechanical Engineering, Product Development Engineering, or a related field.
• Several years of hands‑on experience in product development and mechanical design.
• Comfort working in multidisciplinary teams and solving ambiguous problems.
