Senior Environmental Engineer

About the role

The Environment & Sustainability Expert is responsible for managing and overseeing the Operations and Maintenance Contractors (OMC) Environmental Management System, ensuring compliance and driving sustainability initiatives across metro operations and maintenance activities. The role supports safe, efficient, and environmentally responsible operations aligned with regulatory, contractual, and ESG requirements.

Key responsibilities

• Manage environmental compliance, permits, licences and reporting in line with ISO 14001.
• Develop and implement sustainability strategies covering energy efficiency, water management, waste reduction and decarbonisation.
• Track and report environmental KPIs (energy, emissions, waste, water) and support ESG disclosures (GRI, TCFD).
• Oversee hazardous material handling, spill prevention, noise, vibration and air‑quality controls during maintenance activities.
• Identify environmental risks, investigate incidents and maintain emergency response plans.
• Liaise with regulators, client sustainability teams and internal HSE, engineering and operations groups.
• Deliver training and awareness programmes to foster a sustainability culture among staff and contractors.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Environmental Engineering, Environmental Science, Sustainability or related field, or equivalent demonstrable experience.
• 3‑5 years of experience in environmental compliance and sustainability programmes, preferably on metro, rail or large infrastructure O&M projects.
• Proven track record of implementing ISO 14001 EMS and managing ESG reporting.
