Superintendent, Welding

About the role

The Superintendent, Welding is responsible for overseeing all welding activities on jackets and production decks within a shipyard environment. The role ensures that welding work is planned, executed, and inspected according to project specifications, safety standards, and industry regulations.

Key responsibilities

• Manage day‑to‑day construction operations, coordinating welding subcontractors, consumables, and detailed schedules.
• Lead a team of welders and supervisors, ensuring compliance with project specifications and industry standards.
• Conduct and oversee Pre‑Qualification Records (PQR) and Welding Qualification Tests (WQT) with all stakeholders.
• Plan welding sequences from construction drawings and align them with KPI targets.
• Organise weekly coordination meetings, distribute three‑week look‑ahead schedules, and communicate requirements to subcontractors.
• Maintain inventory levels of welding consumables and control related costs.
• Monitor project schedule, flag performance issues, and implement corrective actions.
• Ensure adherence to shipyard HSEQ regulations and certification requirements.
• Deliver complete Inspection Test Records (ITR) by delegating tasks to foremen and chargehands.

Required profile

• Technical Engineering qualification (Diploma or equivalent); Bachelor’s degree in Engineering preferred.
• Relevant certifications such as 3G, 4G, and 6G (preferred).
• Proven experience supervising welding operations in a shipbuilding or heavy‑construction setting.

Required skills

• SMAW, GTAW, SAW, FCAW welding processes.
• Welding inspection and quality control.
• Pre‑ and post‑heating procedures based on material thickness and grade.
• Consumables inventory management.
• Construction schedule planning and coordination.
• Knowledge of shipyard HSEQ regulations and certification requirements.
